Story of Pencil: 4th Lesson

Himawan Nugroho

What really matters in a pencil is not wooden exterior, but the graphite inside. So, always pay attention to what is happening inside you.

[Paulo Coelho - The Story of Pencils]

Software, instead of hardware, runs the computer. From that analogy, what drives us inside is more important than our outside appearance. Our mind will decide where we should we go or what should we do. Although our decision is influenced by both internal and external factors, our mind is still the decision-maker. Internal factors - personal value, paradigm, worldview, feeling, imagination, wishes, hope, faith - combined with external - circumstances, seasons, political situation, family stability, relationship, workplace condition, tribe leader - will be processed by our software - our mind - and manifested into action as form of a response or initiative. How we digest the information is so crucial since it will determine what we’re going to be. It writes your life; just like graphite inside a pencil that produce result, not the wooden exterior no matter how pretty it looks. With a good software you can produce a good output. That’s why we need a good, healthy and toxic-free mind.
